Do you require swimming skills to do synchronized swimming?

We do require kids to be able to swim round trip on a 25 yd pool.

Who can join the team?

NoVa Synchro welcomes boys and girls ages 6 and older. Whether your child is new to artistic swimming or has previous experience, we have a program that can help them grow and enjoy the sport.

Can my child join the team recreationally rather than competitively?

Yes. We offer recreational teams (Novice, Intermediate and Age-group 12 and under) for athletes who want to enjoy artistic swimming without the commitment of a highly competitive program. These teams focus on developing skills, building confidence, staying active, and having fun in a supportive team environment. While the program is recreational in nature, athletes will also have the opportunity to participate in local artistic swimming competitions throughout the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) region.

Participation in these competitions allows swimmers to experience the excitement of performing and competing while maintaining a recreational level of commitment.

What are our swimmer and team expectations?

The top priority at our synchronized swimming club is safety. We emphasize proper technique, physical readiness, and supportive coaching to ensure each swimmer trains and competes in a safe environment. If a coach believes a swimmer is not prepared to perform a skill safely, their participation in that element will be adjusted until readiness is demonstrated. Safety is a shared responsibility and a core value of our team.

We expect every swimmer to show respect for the sport, their teammates, coaches, judges, parents, chaperones and competitors—both in and out of the water. Good sportsmanship and kindness are non-negotiable parts of our team culture. Swimmers are expected to maintain a positive attitude, stay committed to their teammates and their training, and arrive on time for practices and competitions. If a swimmer must miss a session, it is important that they or their guardian notify the coach in advance so the team can plan effectively.

We expect our athletes to listen, learn, and always give their best effort. Encouraging others, lifting up teammates, and avoiding negative talk about fellow swimmers are essential to building a strong and supportive team.

We take pride in our team and our sport—but above all, we expect every swimmer to have FUN while growing, improving, and shining in and out of the pool!
